Ant Infestations in Whitefield, Prestwich and Swinton.

Ants in the house are the dread of many homes in summer months leaving many people to fear the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they know the summer will bring

Only the unfortunates who have suffered it will appreciate the true effects of flying ants in their own homes.

Having an infestation of basic wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their yearly mating phase the position can become horrifying.

Ants often form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our dwellings and these colonies will continue for many years if left untreated and become progressively more annoying each year.

Our dwellings are warm and dry and make the perfect places for a thriving ant colony; even solid hard floor is not a problem to ants.

Our home heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the depths of winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!

Ants like a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which produce more ant problems than most others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant properties.

Unfortunately it is when they are in their mating phase that they are most irksome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this usually is pretty regularly around the third or fourth week in July.

Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony releases winged immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate whilst airborne. Many thousands of these flying ants are released per colony and nests tend to synchronise their release so that they mate with ants from neighbouring.

Normally this process starts after a few of days of hot, dry weather and will usually continue for about a week although smaller releases will continue throughout most of June, July & August.

Unfortunately when the nest is located under the floor of the house the results can be devastating, literally thousands of winged ants are produced into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they head for the light.

This can be unbelievably upsetting for some people leading to extreme emotional upset to the extent that people learn to hate the summertime and have actually left their house to avoid the plague of ants which they know will inevitably appear each summer.

The wet summers of the last three years have meant that ant call-outs were reduced on earlier but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 could possibly be a particularly good year for them.

A lot of people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with powders from DIY shops etc but mostly these efforts do not succeed as they are not getting to the heart of the infestation which is the colony itself, securely hidding safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.

Fortunately for a lot of people help.

At Harrier Pest Control and Prevention (subject to site survey) we are able to cure this problem and give an extendable three year guarantee.

The treatment which is carried out mainly from the exterior of the house, is perfectly safe for animals and children and leaves no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-proof course injection and blowing an insecticidal powder into the cavity wall under pressure.

This forms an impenetrable barrier through which the ants cannot go and along with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will gradually bring the problem to its end.

The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is a simple matter of topping up the cavities every three years to extend the period of the guarantee in 3 year periods.

This procedure is best done out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.

As a very limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the usual cost until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are willing to travel further afield but this will be at extra cost.
